Community Meeting No. 1

The first Community Open House was held on March 13, 2025 at the Cathedral City Senior Center.  The subject of the first Community Meeting was "What is Zoning and How You Make a Difference". Zoning specifies how each individual property can be used. The "Zoning Code" is made up of the rules and regulations that control what is built on the ground and what uses occupy structures and sites. Zoning also determines the form and character of development (such as size, height and other aspects of appearance). Zoning also includes provisions that ensure new development and uses will fit into existing neighborhoods, and focuses on minimizing adverse effects on neighbors and encourage optimal development patters within the community. The Zoning Code aims to align uses, activity, and the built environment with the vision expressed in the General Plan.

Comments and feedback are being collected throughout the public outreach and engagement process. The comments and feedback will give the Consultant Team guidance in how to draft the Updated Code. This guidance will be shared with the Planning Commission and City Council in May.
