Cathedral City is truly the place where art lives, offering residents and visitors a vibrant blend of visual and performing arts that reflect the community’s creative spirit. The city boasts a robust public art collection that weaves beauty and meaning into everyday spaces, from striking sculptures to colorful murals that celebrate culture and history. In the Perez Art District, local artists open their studios to showcase their work, creating a hub of innovation and expression. The performing arts thrive at the Coachella Valley Repertory Theatre, a regional gem presenting professional productions that inspire and entertain, while the Mary Pickford Theater offers an elevated cinematic experience in the heart of downtown. Together, these artistic landmarks make Cathedral City a dynamic destination where creativity flourishes and art is woven into the fabric of community life.

Cathedral City Public Arts Commission

The Public Arts Commission advances performing and visual art in the community. Commissioners make recommendations to the City Council on the selection, acquisition, and installation of public art paid for by developer fees; support the production of concerts, readings, and other live arts performances through the award of grants or commission sponsorship; and collaborate with other art organizations throughout the Coachella Valley.

The Cathedral City Public Arts Commission is dedicated to enriching the cultural, aesthetic, and economic vitality of our community through the integration of art in public spaces. The Commission strives to celebrate Cathedral City’s diversity, history, and creative spirit by supporting artists, engaging residents and visitors, and fostering a sense of pride and connection through accessible and inspiring works of public art and performances.  Composed of five residents who are appointed to three-year terms by the City Council, the Public Arts Commission meets once a month in Council Chambers on the 2nd Monday of each month starting at 5:30 pm.
