Sewer Hookup Assistance Program (S.H.A.R.P.)

SHARP LogoFunded by the Redevelopment Agency's Affordable Housing fund, we offer grants for sewer hookup to pay up to 100% of the Coachella Valley Water District fees; this used in conjunction with the CHIP Program which offsets the cost for contractor work.

Costs for Hookup

The total cost of a sewer hook-up will depend on the actual situation for your property. It can vary from $3,108 to $4,335. The following is an 'average' cost estimates:

Desert Water District Fees: $4,677.00
Average cost of septic abandonment and sewer connection: $1,900.00 up
Average Total Cost starting at: $6,235.00

Dream Homes Sewer Improvement District
Desert Water District Fees: $3,120

The amount of assistance provided will vary according to income levels and number of persons living in the household. Client's are usually expected to contribute a portion towards the total cost of hookup.

Qualifications

  • Septic failure and proof of pumping system within last 24 months.
  • Be the Owner/Occupant of the Home.
  • The Property be your permanent primary residence.
  • The total income of all members of the household does not exceed 80% or 120% of the median income for the region.
  • Submission of documents:
    • grant deed
    • most recent federal tax returns
    • social security benefit statement (if applicable)
    • bank monthly mortgage statement
    • most recent property tax statement
    • signed/notarized covenant
